Bowdoin College in Brunswick, Maine is a liberal arts college that offers a broad range of majors and minors across different academic divisions. Founded in 1794 as an all male school, Bowdoin become co-educational in 1971. Bowdoin offers over 40 majors across 23 departments, with its most popular programs in government and legal studies, economics, and mathematics.
Some notable alumni include President Franklin Pierce, Reed Hastings (founder of Netflix), Nathaniel Hawthorne (author) and Paul Adelstein (actor in Prision Break). Not making that first list was Stephen Douglas (of Lincoln-Douglas fame) and Henry Wadsworth Longfellow. Impressive.

Bowdoin College's acceptance rate for the Class of 2027 was 7.7 percent, which is the lowest in the college's history. Bowdoin College is a test-optional institution, which means that applicants are not required to submit SAT or ACT scores. For the Class of 2026, among those who submitted scores, the median SAT score was 1460 and the median ACT score was 33.
