I’m trying something new with this stop on the road trip. We have already visited UCLA and UC-Berkeley but there are 8 more schools in the University of California system. Each UC campus has its own variety of degrees and specialties offered, and each UC also has different acceptance rates.
The University of California (UC) system includes:
UC San Francisco is focused on health education, and UC Merced is the newest campus, having opened in 2005. The UC system also includes numerous research centers and academic abroad centers.
The acceptance rates to the University of California (UC) vary by campus and program. The acceptance rates for the 2022-2023 admissions cycle range from 8.6% for UCLA to 89% for UC Merced.
The University of California (UC) system and the California State University (Cal State) system are both public university systems in California. Here are some differences between the two systems:
UCs:
Offer 160 academic majors and 800 different degree programs
Are generally more prestigious than Cal States
Focus on research and theory
Operate as residential campuses
Are designed for students who require campus housing
Offer both undergraduate and graduate education
Have higher tuition costs
Have different acceptance rates for each campus
Offer financial aid, including scholarships, to help manage costs
Cal States:
Provide over 4,100 undergraduate and graduate programs
Focus on practical, career-focused training over research-heavy disciplines
Largely enroll commuter students who do not live on campus
Are more likely to have students live off campus and commute to classes
Are quite affordable and flexible
Offer undergraduate and graduate education
Have lower tuition costs
Have different acceptance rates for each campus
Offer financial aid, including scholarships, to help manage costs
Ultimately, the decision between UCs and Cal States depends on the individual's needs, goals, and perspective.
